Purpose

The Education in Practice Network brings together UoB practitioners to share and develop education-focused research and practice, with the aim of enhancing teaching and student learning across the University. We host regular events where colleagues can exchange ideas, present work-in-progress, and connect with peers for support.

“The network has made a huge difference to me by providing a space to discuss, share and develop education ideas with equally passionate people.”

Professional Development Workshops

Our workshops offer collaborative opportunities for staff to strengthen their educational research and practice. Whether you are just beginning to take a scholarly approach to improving teaching, or looking to contribute to wider debates beyond your discipline, our sessions provide tailored support for each stage of your journey.

Examples include:

  • Getting started with educational research – exploring what it involves, why it matters, and how it can shape your practice.
  • Qualitative and quantitative research methods – practical sessions on approaches such as running focus groups.
  • Pathways to publication – advice on writing and publishing your work.
  • Speed-write your case study – a hands-on workshop where you leave with a draft ready to develop further.

Network Seminars

Our seminars spotlight colleagues’ journeys in educational research — from first steps into pedagogic enquiry to sharing findings that advance teaching and learning. Each session connects personal practice with research methods, outcomes, and opportunities for wider scholarship.

Start the Day Coffee Mornings

Join colleagues involved in educational research and scholarship for informal monthly coffee mornings on campus. Share ideas, discuss your projects, and hear about what others are working on. Start times alternate each month between 8:30am and 9:00am.

“Being part of the Education Scholarship and Research Network has been central to my professional development. The workshops and writing days give dedicated time to advance projects and a supportive space to share ideas and learn from colleagues across the University.”
